Our verdict
Topaz Video (formerly Topaz Video AI) is a mature, pro‑grade enhancer rather than a generative tool. In testing it delivered some of the cleanest 4K upscales and denoising we’ve seen, thanks to specialized models like Starlight, Proteus, and Nyx. Frame interpolation via Apollo/Chronos/Aion is handy for slow motion, and the new plugins for After Effects and DaVinci Resolve reduce round‑trips. The value is mixed: Personal at $299/yr is fair for solo editors, but Pro at $699/yr mainly adds local pro models, more credits, and full commercial rights. There’s no free tier, and Linux isn’t supported. Cloud credits are limited (25/100) and heavier cloud use incurs extra costs. Still, for restorations, upscaling legacy footage, or fixing noisy camera files, the output quality justifies the spend.
